I am a direct relative of the Briggs family in that general area. My grandfather's father was Thomas Briggs who married Margaret E. Spear on Oct. 3, 1867. Thomas was born Feb. 4, 1837 in Belmont, OH and he died on May 9, 1911. He had 11 children. My grandfather was Karl Lewis Briggs born about 1879. They lived in New Sharon, Mahaska, IA.
