Thank you, George, for your information. From fed census records 1850 through 1900 there appears to be a Rufus/Jane Briggs family with these children:George (1841-), Hester Ellen (1843-), Willis (1845-1897), Henry (1847-), Marshall (1850-1936), Stanton (1850-died young), Sarah (1854-), Dorsethea (1856-), Franklin (1859), Lottie (1864-), Katie (1868-), Julia (1871-). I have from Civil War records that Willis Briggs' father was Rufus and his mother Jane. Marshall Briggs had no issue that I have found and his given name was passed down through Willis' son, Marshall. Marshall, (b. 1850), death certificate information identified Rufus and Lucy Jane Buckmister as his parents. The informant for this information was Marshall and Willis' sister Sarah Offley of South Dakota. May we compare information and sources?
