Albert,
Per the 1850 Sumner County Census, Mary (Polly) BRIGANCE was born 1782 in North Carolina. She was the daughter of William who died in 1804. Her husband George DEMPSY was born 1776 in North Carolina per the 1850 census. Did the BRIGANCE family come from PA to TN via NC? Do you know where they may have stopped off in North Carolina before moving to the Cumberland Settlement? I am trying to find where George DEMPSY and Mary BRIGANCE were born in North Carolina. There were some George and Melvin DEMPSEYs residing in Bertie and Halifax counties during that time period. Did the BRIGANCE family come through either of those counties? Was William BRIGANCE, father of Mary, William Melvin BRIGANCE? Thank you for any help!
William Tidwell
