Teri,
The Brigance Genealogy (Vol. 1 & 2) connects 14,000+ Brigance descendants back to the Brigance Clan that had settled in the Cumberland Settlement (now Sumner Co., TN) prior to 1790. This Clan had migrated from Cumberland Co., PA where they were living prior to 1760.
I have never met or corresponded with a Brigance descendant who could not be connected to the Cumberland Settlement clan.
Thus, it appears members of the clan remained together until some members began to migrate/disperse from Sumner Co., TN in 1796 and later. From there, they first migrated to IL, west TN, and TX.
If any one has documentaion this is not true, I would appreciate knowing about it.
