I am looking for any info on MELVIN L. BRIGHAM Sr. he was born in July 1830 in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. and died on Nov. 11, 1920 in Atoka, Okla. He was married to Mary Ann Hamilton Empson\Empstead Lewallen. They had 4 children, Albert, Eleanor, Melvin Jr., and my g-grandmother Roxanne (Roxie). He changed his name for an unknown reason from BRIGANCE to BRIGHAM before marriage in 1857. Present day Brigance family members still think of him as Melvin Brigance. Any info on him and why he changed his name would be greatly appreciated. (I have also posted this message on the Brigham family page).
