Sorry can't help on the family history

I have been told that Brien comes from many sources.
A. From France
B. Decendants of the O'Brien Family
C. a derivited of Breen
D. During the Famine, as a way for local to identify those who colabrated with the English the locals droped the 'O' / 'MC' etc.
