Pearl, I do not have record of your ancestor but that is primarily because John Bridgeman has never been the real focus of my research. His older brother, William Bridgeman, was my ancestor. I am sure there is record of the estate of John Bridgeman in Bledsoe County. Usually, you can find an inventory of slaves in the estate record.

You might find somebody else who can help you by plugging "Bledsoe" in for a search of the Bridgeman/Bridgman GenForums.

I do not think it likely that your ancestors belonged to the family prior to John. Most of the family, including my line, were poor farmers without means of acquiring slaves. It seems as if I remember hearing that John actually dealt in slaves. One thing that may interest you is that John Bridgeman's house still stands. Keep me posted. I am very interested in your progress! Steve Strickland
