Lena--the reference in Sartain's book is the one I was remembering. Sorry for confusing my Richards and Benjamins. There is actually a book in existence on the Wheelers. I saw it in the library in Jacksboro and made some copies. The evidently came from Culpeper, VA into the area around Wythe County, and on in to Tennessee around Campbell County. Richard and Charlotte Bridgeman Wheeler were fairly substantial citizens of the county. There is correspondence from some of their children quoted and the Wheeler Cemetery is still there.

Your theory on the Francis who came to Georgia being from this bunch still intrigues me. I wish we could solve that. One thing clouds this--as you know the nickname for both Francis and Franklin is Frank, and in one of those deeds in Wythe County, you will find the original deed says Francis, and when he sold it it says Franklin. . .that's why I have always wondered if the two were really one!

Again, thanks for all you are doing. Let me know if I can sponsor some microfilm for you! Hope all is well with your family! Steve
