Ezra Eby, in 'A Biographical History of Waterloo Township', says that "The old progenitor of the Bricker family whose descendants are here traced and arranged in order by branches of families, emigrated to America in 1718. He was a native of Switzerland and was born about the the year 1685. When he was thirteen years of age his father, Hans Brücker, left Switzerland and moved to the Pfaltz, now called the Palatinate. They resided in the vicinity of Zweibrücken, where they died when their son Jacob, the old progenitor, was about 21 years of age. Twelve years after his parents' deaths, he in company with one Hans Huber, determined to seek a home in America and settle among their coreligionists." Tradition has it that they left Europe in spring, 1718, and arrived at Philadelphia in August of the
same year."
Interestingly enough, Peter Bricker (1700-1761), whom some say was the son of German-born son of Jacob Brücker, was on the ship Pink Plaisance from Rotterdam, landing in Philadelphia on September 21, 1732, with one "Hans Huber" and family, as the ship's list indicates. Could "tradition" have been unreliable?
