Hello Graham Mainey, It's surprising to know about another Mainey; Particularly not in the U.S. My husband, John K. Mainey, has been trying to research his family and contacted all Maineys in the U.S. in 1994-1995. He has identified only 54 Maineys in this country.......realizing that females would have other names & are/were also Maineys. I, wife, Marilyn Goodson Mainey, am the Bricker/Goodson relative. Frances Goodson m. John Bricker 19 Nov 1867 in Carroll Co., GA. Frances' father, George W. Goodson was sister to my Mary Goodson w/o John G. Dillinger. In the Mainey grouping, there appear to be 6 different families; none are related, at least in this country. Husband, John's family appears to antedate the others by at least one generation, maybe two. Three of the 6 families trace their ancestry to Ireland, but locations and/or dates are nebulous. The other family groupings do not know where or when they came from. My husbands earliest proven ancestor is Joseph Mainey who marries Angelina(sp?) Demers, a French woman. They lived in Vermont, USA but we don't know where. Best guess is early 1830's and his son, my husband's grandfather, said that Joseph was born in Vermont. We do not know Joseph's parent's name. Do you have any connection with Mainey's that came to the US? Even if you're not my husband's line, he is still in touch with the other Maineys. We'd be glad to share our research, if you are connected to Mainey's that immigrated to the US. I have research on the Michael Goodson (and Lydia Vestal Goodson) family. They were the parents of the above mentioned George (f/oFrances) and Mary Goodson.
