I am a great-great-granddaughter of Henry Brickell.I have fairly comprehensive records of the family from 1840 onwards - I too had the problem of the name-change to Brittle and have only just got the certificate which proves that it is the same family, as conclusively as one can hope to achieve.
The 1841 Glamorgan census says that Henry and his wife Elizabeth are German. In 1851 they are listed as born in Germany but now British subjects.I can find no record of their naturalisation at the Public Record Office. It is possible that they weren't born in Germany but came from Germany, having lived there for some time.If Henry is the son of James Noailles Brickell, he would have been born in America, I think.Do you have any further information on how he got to Wales, and why he was in Germany?
