I am the ggg grandson of David Briant, born 1824 in the Union District of South Carolina. Died 8/13/1873, Gibson County, Tennessee.Buried in the Briant Cemetery inside the Milan Arsenal. He married Sarah Ann "Sallie" Bishop (b 1825 in NC)
One of his sons was Zechariah "ZR" Bryant, whose daughter Edith is my great-grandmother.
This line begins with Lucy Briant, believed to be a Cherokee Indian princess, or at the very least, the daughter of an important Cherokee leader. Her name was Au-noo-yo-hee. One source says her maiden name was WardBorn 1760, died 1848 in Gibson County,TNMarried Chunawee Briant (also a Cherokee). They had eight children, includingJohn.
John Briant married Frances "Fannie" Nance. One of their sons was Zacariah "Ryle" Briant, the father of David.
A monument to Lucy, son John, and his children has been erected in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery near Skullbone,in Gibson County, Tennessee. You can see it at

This is a website of a descendant of Lucy.
This may not be your David, but it's an interesting story.
