Hi Molly - more recent research suggests that Nathan Brewton Sr.'s father was Benjamin Bruton, instead of John, based on circumstantial evidence.

As I've done more research and gone back to document each piece of information that I have, I have found no evidence that Nathan Sr. had a middle name -- the middle name of "Jackson" hasn't been in any original documents. It would be unusual, as I've since learned, for him to have a middle name before 1800. I suspect that his son Nathan Jr. was named "Jackson" after the prior Georgia governor but sitting US Senator James Jackson at the time when Nathan Jr. was born. This seems to be validated by the naming of Nathan Sr.'s son Emanuel, who was born during the 6 month tenure when David Emanuel was the Georgia governor.

Hope this is of help!

Regards, Brian
