Some family lines show the wife of Emanuel Brewton (s/o Emanuel Brewton and Eliza Caroline Bacon) as Eliza Dixon, but I have not seen any sources to document this. I believe they have confused Eliza Elmire Travis marriage with her sister's, Mary Ann Travis, who married John Dixon.

I theorize that has been erroneously perpetuated and Eliza E. Travis Brewton (wife of Emanuel) moved in with her sister Mary Ann Travis Dixon (wife of husband John) after Emanuel Brewton died. Per the 1880 Census data. Also living in the Dixon household is son John (Jonathon) and wife Alabama "Bama" nee Foshee. and daughter Mary "Mollie" who later married a Mr. Holland.

The 1880 AL Census, Brenton, Escambia, Alabama pg 200D shows the following:
John DIXON Self M Male W 52 AL Mill Man GA GA
Mary DIXON Wife M Female W 45 AL Keeping House GA GA
John B. DIXON Son S Male W 18 AL Laborer AL AL
Nick DIXON Son S Male W 15 AL AL AL
Frances DIXON Dau S Female W 13 AL AL AL
Charlie DIXON Son S Male W 11 AL AL AL
Mark DIXON Son S Male W 6 AL AL AL
Minnie JERNAGAN GDau S Female W 7 AL AL AL
Bud ELLIOTT Other S Male W 30 AL Laborer GA GA
Sylvester PEEVY Other S Male W 20 AL Laborer GA AL
John THOMPSON Other S Male W 17 AL Laborer AL AL
Eliza BREWTON Other W Female W 41 AL AL AL
Mollie BREWTON Other S Female W 18 AL AL AL
John BREWTON Other M Male W 22 AL Laborer AL AL
Bama BREWTON Other M Female W 18 AL AL AL

To add to support the theory that Eliza is a Travis not a Dixon is a document re: Fort Crawford in Alabama that details some of the lineage per her son. In consideration of space I am including only the relevant passages to support the lineage in question.

"Memorandum in re old Fort Crawford, by Ed Leigh McMillan, August 15, 1934.

John Brewton, who was born in the main Fort building of Old Fort Crawford on Aug. 3, 1857, was in my office this morning. He gave me the following information.

His grandfather was Emanuel Brewton. Mr. Brewton's grandmother's name was Caroline Bacon. He is of the opinion that his grandfather and grandmother were born in Georgia. Mr. Brewton's father's name was Emanuel Brewton--spelled Brewton. He was born 60 miles from Atlanta--Mr. Brewton doesn't know in which direction. Mr. Brewton's mother's name was Eliza Travis; she was the daughter of Nick Travis and was a niece of col. William Barrett Travis of Alamo fame...

...Mr. Brewton says that his grandfather came to the settlement later known as Fort Crawford, the later part of the 18th century. He stated that his grandmother told him that a fort had been established by the Spaniards sometime previous to their coming.

Mr. Brewton states that he and his sister Mary Brewton Holland, were born in the old fort building at Fort Crawford....

...Mr. Brewton tells the following story: he says that Tom Dillon was an itinerant school teacher; that he was employed by Mr. Brewton's grandfather (Nick Travis) to teach his children....

...John Brewton who gave the above information, married Bill Foshee's daughter. At this time he was living in Texas... " Note: daughter of Willima "Bill" Foshee is Alabama "Bama" Foshee Brewton (9 Jun 1862-25 Aug 1928, buried in Kirbyville City Cemetery,Kirbyville,Jasper,Texas).

I would be happy to share what I have.

Best regards,
Trish
