I'm glad you enjoyed the info. on John Bruton! Unfortunately his parentage is still elusive, but I'm working on it. I suspect that our Brutons were from Virginia and perhaps before that from England. I was in England business in November and had the opportunity to do some research there. There were many, many Bruton families listed in Gloucestershire records of the 1600s and 1700s, maybe John's ancestry goes back to Gloucestershire? More work needs to go into this, though.Incidentally, while in England, I spent the night in the village of Bruton in Somerset. The town has no connection to our Bruton families, as it was named for the river Brue which runs through the heart of the village. In earlier research I explored the history of the village and found no Brutons listed in the parish records, covering the years 1554 to 1812. I wonder, though, if some early ancestor moved north to Gloucestershire from the village of Bruton in the 1300s or 1400s, when surnames were first coming into use, and he was listed as "de Bruton" because he was "from Bruton" and eventually took that name. Just a theory, we'll have to keep researching to see if it's correct!
