My grandmother was a Brewton, also from Georgia. She is a distant cousin to Rob's Ottis Mellville Brewton. I've done a lot of work on the Brewtons over the years and have emailed Rob what I have on his direct line. Ottis was one of 13 children of Andrew Jackson Brewton (1864-1957) and Frances Eugenia Sikes Brewton (1866-1952). Jack and Eugenia were distant cousins themselves; Jack's grandfather, Benjamin Brewton, and Eugenia's grandmother, Martha Elizabeth Brewton Daniel Sikes, were brother and sister.

Anyway, Jack was one of ten children of Benjamin Berrian Brewton (1834-1912) and Candace Ann Tippins Brewton (1835-1914). Berry, in turn, was one of ten children of Benjamin Brewton (1796-1875) and Charlotte Malvina Bacon Brewton (1808-1876). And this Benjamin was one of 12 children of Nathan Jackson Brewton/Bruton (1765 in NC - 1855 in GA) and Nancy Fontaine Thompson Brewton (ca. 1780 - 1864). Nathan came to Georgia with several of his siblings and his mother, Isabella, from old Dobbs (now Lenoir) County, North Carolina.

Nathan was one of 7 alleged children of Isabella Bruton; the name of Nathan's father and Isabella's first husband is unknown, but most researchers believe him to be either Benjamin or John Bruton. Note that the family name changed in Nathan's generation, although not everyone changed it.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck with your search!
