Thomas J. Brewer was b. about 1814 in Georgia and died about 1852 in Sumter Co., Alabama, and had a brother named George W. Brewer based upon a chancery suit. From the 1850 Census it seems almost certain they are sons of Matthew Brewer, b. about 1774 in South Carolina, d. 6 March 1853 Choctaw Co., Alabama. His wife is said to be Elizabeth Hampton, although I do not have basis for this.
1853 (year of death) Matthew Brewer of Choctaw Co., Alabama, (place of death), 1858 William Brewer of Marion Co., Alabama, and 1869 Willis Brewer of Monroe Co., Mississippi, are probably all sons of 1818 William Brewer of Oglethorpe Co., Ga., and his wife, Elizabeth Holman.
1818 William Brewer of Oglethorpe Co., Ga., in turn, appears to be a grandson of 1744 George Brewer of Brunswick Co., Va., through his son, Burwell, who appears to have died about 1799 in Georgia, although the connection is not quite as solid as I would like.
My interest is in 1877 Wyche Brewer of Newton Co., Miss., who appears to be from a collateral branch, but who also appears in Sumter Co., Alabama, in the 1830's and 1840's.
