Another Meredith Brewer

Note: beginning in 1811, there appears a Meredith Brewer on the tax list for Christian County, Kentucky and his name is recorded there as well on the 1812, 1813, and 1814 tax list as well. He later appears in Trigg County on the 1840 census, page 297. A Meredith Brewer was married on August 9, 1823 in Christian County, Kentucky to Nancy Brown. This is not however the Meredith Brewer who is creditied as being a brother of Zion Brewer; as this Meredith is of the wrong age, and is in the wrong place at the wrong time. This Meredith had two sons: Joseph A. (1808), and James A. (1810). Both of this Meredith’s sons are reported to have married sisters who were the daughters of Governor Stuart of Christian County. This latter claim, circulating on the internet, has not been proven
Joseph A. Brewer, born circa 1808 in South Carolina appears on the 1840, page 219; and on the 1850 and Christian County, Kentucky census. His occupation is listed as miller. His wife Nancy, born circa 1809, in Georgia appears with him and the following children, all listed as being born in Kentucky: William G., born circa 1833; James T., born circa 1834; Robert L., born circa 1835; and Priscilla J. Brewer, born circa 1841
John A. Brewer, born circa 1812, in Kentucky, also appears on the 1840, page 219; and 1850 Christian County, Kentucky census with his wife, Matilda, born circa 1810, and the following children, all born in Kentucky: Jane, born circa 1837; Benjamin, born circa 1838; Mary A., born circa 1840; William, born circa 1842; David, born circa 1844; and Virginia Brewer, born circa 1849. Note: I have since found two Meredith Brewers: one died in Illinois in the early 1830’s; and the second was still living in Trigg County, Kentucky on the 1840 census.
