Believe this is the story that was alluded to in the first post. There are others on Ancesty, and some are more about the Peace Commission.

Jonas Brewer died in 1862 of dysentery while in the Conf Army. Jonas and his family moved from Wayne Co, Tennessee, in 1854/55 to Izard Co, Arkansas (now Stone Co.), settling near Mountain View. He married Margaret Brewer (1st cousins) and their 10 children were all born in Tennessee.
They settled on what later became Roasting Ear Creek, near Mountain View, Arkansas. He was against the civil war and with his son, Aaron Brewer, joined the "Peace Commission" in 1861. The confederate militia and local JP judges
fairly well eliminated the Peace Commission. Jonas and his son, Aaron, son-in-law Will Stevens, and cousin, Wiley Jack Brewer, hid out for some time but came back closer to home so they could come in at night for food, etc. They walked into a trap one night and were taken to Sylamore
with chains around their necks. Some of their captors wanted to shoot and hang them but a compromise was reached and the captives agreed to join the confederate army at Little Rock which they did December 19, 1861, and were assigned to Company K, 18th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry. Jonas died in Kentucky of dysentery and exposure in late 1862 and his son Aaron was killed. His son-in-law, Will Stevens, helped bury Jonas and survived the war. Cousin Wiley Jack deserted, ending up in Missouri where he
joined the Union Army and served with distinction being wounded once.
