Hi, Sarah,
Thanks for your posting.I have read your exchange with Ken and hope he gets to see this.I have some puzzles toadd.First, I recently got Mazeppa's death certificate. It recites his father as Peter S. Brewer and his mother as Mary Francis. This is a different name than the one brother Alexander used in applying for his Civil War pension, which was Mary Higge(i)ns.The death certificate shows DOB of 1/25/1850.It shows he died 6/22/1915 and was buried 6/24/1915 in what looks like Haines Corner. This conflicts with the newspaper report, which had him buried in the Catskill Village Cemetery. The death certificate "informant" was Mrs. Nettie Brewer.Second, to further confuse things, in the 1905 census I found one "Mathew" T Brewer, 55, with wife Netta,48, son George Brewer, 2, Porter June, 23, Lester Baras, 17, Mamie Baras, 15, Kollie Baras, 13, and Charles Baras, 9.They were living at 197 West Main Street, the same address Mazeppa and Nettie, alone, occupied per the 1910 census.
I will post more in response to one of Ken's messages about Etta Haines, Mazeppa's second wife, whose antecedents I have traced.
