Thanks for the link to the book; I will take a look. Also thank you for the info on Etta Haines marriage to Mazeppa. Another indicator she'd been married before. Finding that husband will be a puzzle--I have been trying to find a Whitaker marriage to a Haines, but with no luck so far. Jessie Pike Brewer's husband Oscar Showers was a friend of my late parents-in-law. I think my husband and his brothers knew Daniel.
Good luck on finding the mysterious Mr. Haines. I went through all the cemeteries and the census records and could not make a match: the name, as always, can be spelled amny ways.
