John Brewer confusion.
OK I’m lost. In my data base I have:
John Brewer III
born October 10, 1635 in Isle of Wight Co VA
died abt 1708 in Isle of Wight Co VA
married to Elizabeth Rice in 1654 in Isle of Wight Co VA
Child: George G Brewer born in 1685 (from whom I am descended)
Last night I was digging around and came across “Brewer Genealogy” by H.A. Robinson, 1903. This genealogy lists some strange contradictions for who I believe must be the same John Brewer. This one lists:
John Brewer Jr.
born October 10, 1642 in Cambridge Mass
died Jan 1 1691 in Sudbury Mass
m to Elizabeth Rice(daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Moore) Rice) born 4 Aug 1648
Children: John, Elizabeth, Hannah, James, Sarah and Mary.
This John doesn’t show a child named George leaving me with no connection to him. It has the same birthdate but different year, different death date, shows him born in MA not VA. But it shows him married to the same women.
I have generally trusted older genealogy information more because pre-internet information had to come from actual records or family history and H.A. Robinson does quote sources.
Has anyone else come across this contradiction and have you resolved it? And shouldn't there be a law regarding how many people can be named John Brewer?
