one particularly fine part of the great barrier reef for scuba diving is the john brewer reef, a few miles off townsville, queensland, australia

i've obtained maps and photos of the area; the reef is named after british military vessel the john brewer, one of three which ran aground there in the 1840's; the vessel was carrying a members of the 'slashers' regiment back to india

the vessel does not appear to be listed in the indices of maritime history records on the net; if anyone could help me find out after whom this vessel was named i'd be most grateful
