Hi Phyllis,

My descent is through Howell Sr. and Rebecca Willis, his first wife, through their son Howell Jr., to Howell Jr.'s son Reuben and his wife Celia. Their daughter Pherabe, born 19 December 1796, married Isham Brewer on 28 February 1811. Isham was the grandson of Nicholas Sr., Howell Sr.'s brother, and the son of Nicholas Jr. It makes it complicated having both Howell Sr. and Jr. and Nicholas Sr. and Jr. There was a lot of intermarriage in the Brewer lines.

Most researchers believe Rebecca Willis was Howell Sr.'s first wife and Marian May his second. As I do not know William's birth date, I am only guessing when I say I believe he was probably Rebecca's son. Rebecca died in 1756. Surry County became Brunswick County around 1720, I forget exactly what year. So Howell Sr. was probably born when it was Brunswick County.

Rebecca Willis's name is, I am sure, where the Willis first name came from.

Barbara L. Harrison
