Hi! Jean -
Yeah!!!!Eureka!!!!Finally, somebody has come to the same conclusion that I have.I have been pouring over everything I can get my hands on to disprove that George was married to Susannah Fields (Cherokee) and I've come up with the same conclusions that you all have.
Olivia is my 3rd great grandmother and I have found that her sister - can't remember if it was Rebecca or Sabrina- has a marriage license with BOTH George and HANNAH's names giving her permission to marry in St. Tammany Co., Louisiana. That tells me that Hannah is George's wife and that she is Hannah Thompson.I know that Hannah is Balaam's daughter because she is NOT John's daughter.I know that Olive Melton is her mother because Hannah McSwane didn't marry Balaam Thompson until 1791 and Hannah Thompson Brewer was b. bet. 1770-1780 on the Hinds Co., Census. Now is this convoluted or what?!But by process of elimination - and this is not all! - I've come to the conclusion that Oliver Brewer and Rebecca Smith are George's parents. This is one thing that I'm NOT sure of, though, and so I've asked Dean Williams to check out his 40 odd pages of estate papers on Burwell Brewer to see if he has a son named George listed. If not, then Oliver is the man!Whew! That was wonderful to get off my chest!
Now whereabouts were George and Hannah in GA when Olivia was born?Wilkes County?I've not checked but I'll bet it was because that's where Nancy Polly Taylor, wife of Balaam Brewer, George and Hannah's son, was born. And Thomas B. Taylor, Olivia's husband, and Nancy Polly's brother, was also from GA. And why did they go to GA?Gold?
Incidentally, I can update Thomas B. and Olivia's Sarah Ann Taylor marriages for you and her children, if you want them. She did not marry Solomon Rice - his name was Joseph William Rice and the enumerator made a grave mistake on the 1850 Upshur Cy, TX census. He died in the Civil War in 1862. But that's another subject. Incidentally Sarah Ann went on to maryy 2 more times. Her name was Sarah Ann Taylor Rice Wright Omsby and she is buried next to her daughter Parlee Rice Wright and Parlee's husband, David Hunt Wright in Lordsburg, New Mexico.Another long story.
Luv yu, guys,
