Hi Earnest,
This is a try to answer your questions concerning Nicholas and Howell Jr., sons of Nicholas and Howell Brewer Sr.

In the 1960s I corresponded with a Brewer researcher named Mary Adams. She had done a lot of work on the Brewer/Laniers, on our identical lines, i.e. Nicholas and Howell Brewer, sons of George and Sarah Brewer. She had been given information from a family Bible belonging to Isham and Pherabe Brewer. It gave the names of the children of Nicholas Brewer II and his wife Winifred as: David, Mimy, Ancil, Mark, Drury, Rebecca, Sampson, Dennis, Mrs. Moore, Jeremiah, Isham and Randall. This is the same Isham who married Howell Jr.'s granddaughter, Pherabe Brewer. Pherabe was the daughter of Reuben Brewer (1768/9-1855), who was the son of Howell Jr.
Howell Sr. and Howell Jr. are a difficult pair to positively identify their families. A few years ago James Brewer, who was then the publisher of the "Brewer Researcher" did a special study on these two and he concluded the following:
Howell Brewer Sr. m l Rebecca Willis 2. Marion May, daughter of John May on 3 September 1757 in Orange county, N.C.
His children were: Howell Jr., William, John, Ann, Ambrose, James, Orville and Polly.
Howell Jr.'s wife, or wives, are still unknown. Some of his children were: Isaac, Reuben (who married Celia and had daughter Pherabe), Simon, George, Livicy ? and others.
I have visited Burnett Cemetery in Penn Township, Highland County, Ohio, where Isham Brewer, Reuben Brewer and his wife Celia, Balaam Brewer (son of Reuben and Celia), Sinia Brewer Smithson, Caroline and Mary Smithson are buried. Pherabe Brewer is buried in the Robbins Cemetery in Mercer County, Ohio. After her husband Isham died, in 1852, Pherabe went further north in Ohio with her sons, Nicholas III, Simon, Lewis Sr., David, Joseph and Thomas. They all lived on farms just on the outskirts of St. Marys, Ohio. Lewis Sr. is my great grandfather.
This information is all in my "Laniers And Their World, 1559-1719" book, with pictures of some of those mentioned above.
Hope this answers some of your questions.
Barbara Lyon Harrison
