Hey Dianne -- Chatham Co. Militia Rolls, 1772:
A list of men (0fficers) commanded by Capt. Stephen Poe, dated 1772: Pretteman Brewer, Serg't. He's listed somewhere else as "Prettyman", but I can't put my finger on the exact source at the moment
Other Brewers listed in the 1772 Militia in Chatham Co.NC Include Howell (Capt. Joab Brooks Company) and Henry, George and Olliver (Captain Isaiah Hogan's Company, September 19th, 1772).
There is definitely a Prettyman Brewer, prob. son of Old Ambrose, who shows in later census data in NC and TN, but he's too young to be this "Pretteman". What I'm wondering, is:
1) Could Pretteman be a son of George and Sarah who isn't mentioned in the will?
2) A son of either Howell or Lanier (depending on which you believe to be Old Ambrose's father) and a brother to Old Ambrose, who names a son after him.
He's certainly hanging out with the right crowd in Chatham, and is almost surely some sort of relation. Thing is, I've been unable to find out another blessed thing about him.
