Hi Betty,
Wish I had seen your message before. I think a lot of confusion on the Howell Brewers is the fact there are three of them. Howell Sr., my information says, was firstly married to Rebecca Willis, who either died before he married Marion May, by 3 September 1757 or, he absconded the state, his wife and children, never divorcing Rebecca and then married Marion. In that primative, pioneer period this last theory is certainly possible. Anway, I have Howell Jr., who I descend from, being born in 1740 in Brunswick County, Virginia. I have Ambrose born c.1754, also in Brunswick County, thus making Ambrose and Howell sons of Rebecca. I do not have a Lewis as a son of either Howell Sr. or Jr., which does not mean he wasn't, I just don't have that information. Then there is Howell Cobb, who was either the son of Ambrose's first wife, Ona Richardson or his second wife, Lucinda Russell. On my line, Howell Jr.'s son Reuben's daughter Pherabe (1796-1874) married Howell Jr.'s first cousin, Nicholas Jr.'s son Isham, so I am a double Brewer and Lanier. Isham and Pharabe's son was a Lewis (1818-1899), born in Clinton County, Ohio and died in Auglaize County, Ohio. He was my great grandfather. Sorry this is so confusing but the answer space doesn't leave room to go into much detail. Barbara
