I am researching the Brewer family of Delaware and Otsego Counties, New York.
My ancestor was Maria(Mariah) Brewer, born in Jan. or Feb. 1805 in New York, probably in Delaware County. Maria was married circa 1825 to Joseph C. Winters, and the two moved to Cannonsville, Delaware Co., NY, where they lived. She had children: Eliza, Alphonso, George, Harriet, Edgar and Andrew B. Winters. Maria died on Jan. 22, 1861 in Cannonsville, NY. She was buried in the Cannonsville Cemetery, but reburied at Oakwood Cemetery in Stilesville, NY during the Cannonsville Resevoir Project.
The only proof of Maria's family or parentage is that she had two sisters, Eliza and Kate Brewer. I also have a questionable source which says that the three girls and an unidentified brother were the children of Peter Brewer of Cannonsville. I do not think that her father really was a Peter Brewer, but it is possible. Here is information on Maria's sisters:
Eliza Brewer, born circa 1805 in New York. She was married to Andrew Smith in Delaware County, New York. They lived in Delaware County, and she died on June 1, 1879 in Daveport, Delaware Co., NY.
Kate Brewer, born in New York. She married David St. John in Delaware Co., NY. No more information.
Some people tell me that my Maria, Eliza and Kate were possibly descendants of Elias Brewer and Phebe Lucas. In the 1800 Delaware Co., NY census there is listed: Richard, David, Elias, Francis and Henry Brewer. I believe one of them was her father.
Any help or ideas? Thanks.
