I've looked up what Ben Brewer's book has:

Page 44
"William Brewer patented 400 acres on Big Sandy Creek June 26, 1778. (Wilkes Co Land Bk. Entry 219). William's half brother Burrell Brewer applied for three patents in 1779 (#1026, #1059, #1062) but were not granted."

[I think this is Wilkes Co., NC., from the context, but there is also a Wilkes Co., GA. where Burrell/Burwell died in 1799.]
