Not sure if we're talking about the same Brewer/Cockman marriage here, but I am a descendant of Sampson Brewer (b. 1817 NC) and Mary Polly Cockman (b. 1818 TN). I show Mary Polly Cockman's parents as being Joseph Cockman Jr (b. 1797 NC) and Elizabeth Hill (b. 1797 SC).

I have tentatively linked my Sampson Brewer to the Sampson Brewer sometimes listed as a son of George Brewer (b. 1775 NC) and Jane Butler (b. 1780).

Sampson and Mary, as well as most of their children and Mary's parents, can be found on reel 49, pgs 188-190 of the Pulaski, AR 1860 Federal Census, Microfilm-# M653-49, Union Township.

Anyone have any evidence to link my Sampson Brewer above to the s/o George and Jane Brewer? I even have a picture (looks more like a painting to me) of Sampson and Mary!
