Amy --

No, my Hayses, Brewers, and Woodses all stayed for a few more generations in Fayette (Lamar) County, Alabama. My grandparents moved "across the creek" to Caledonia (Lowndes Co.), Mississippi around 1913.

Thanks for the lead on the Hawkins/Hickman Bible. I looked it up, and was happy to see Sarah Hickman and all her siblings (as I knew them) listed. I'm in the dark about the Hawkins connection, though. Do you think that may have been Polly's maiden name? If not, do you know the relationship?

I have several Sarahs in my Hays lines, including one born in 1837, as was the Sarah M. listed in the Hawkins/Hickman Bible. Mine was the youngest daughter of my gggGrandfather, John Hays, and presumably his second wife, Mahala ?. This Sarah married Green B. Payne. Her older brother, Andrew Jackson Hays, married Evalina W. Brewer, Sarah Hickman's daughter. They were my ggGrandparents.

Evalina's younger siblings, Peyton Grady Brewer, Elizabeth Jane Brewer Ellis, and Alvah Brewer, as well as at least her two youngest children, Andrew Jackson Hays, Jr. and Peyton Sherman C. Hays, were among those resettlers from Fayette/Lamar County to East Texas.
