Melba, my information on Nicy Brewer is that she was born in 1809 and is a daughter of Joel Brewer. My problem is that my gggrandfather John Brooks married a Martha Brewer in 1848 according to Maddox records. Other records show that John married a Martha A. Mercer(d/o Hyman and Elizabeth Mercer). In 1880 census she is shown living with her grandson James Wesley Brooks who is the oldest son of John. Now either Hyman was married to Nicy before Elizabeth and had a daughter named Martha A. Mercer or Nicy had a daughter by someone and Mattha kept the name Brewer. Either way Nicy is the mother of Martha, not Elizabeth. I'm sure James Wesley Brooks would know his grandmother.

Nicy Brewer did sell land to Hyman in 1859, before she moved to Randolph County, Al with her daughter Martha and John. I also believe that another daughter named Sara, married to Issac Fort went to Alabama also. They were all living in the same neighborhood in the 1860 Randdolph county census.
