Bretton Family History

During the 40 years we spent researching my family history we came across 8 different spellings of "Bretton" in the 1700's alone, and that was only in our own Flockton parish records. One of the most famous Brettons', Blessed John Bretton, who was martyred in 1598, was called "Britton" in some of the documents recording the event. The history goes back 1000 years and during that time there could be well over 30,000 branches of the family with different spellings of the name.
There could therefore be many people who, now or in the future, might find a link to our branch and it would be a pity, in that case, if they had an extremely detailed family history back to before the Norman Conquest and were not aware of the fact. For that reason we have published our complete history on :-
www.bretton.org

Please feel free to copy any of it for your own family history purposes. We should shortly have the family tree on the same site
