Irish and not French, that would be a stunner. I think, however, that as the Bretons from Brittany and the Irish people, plus also the Cornish from Cornwall in England all have origins in the Celts, there may just be a link. I do know that up until the last century fishermen from Brittany and Cornwall often sailed into each others ports and could communicate as they both spoke a similar language. I would imagine that the Bretons also sailed into Irish ports. Unfortunately, the language had virtually died in Cornwall and I would imagine in Brittany too. It is possible that a member of the Helie family sailed to Ireland and stayed possibly through marriage or just good fishing and started another branch of the family the name gradually changing to Healey. Of course they could have sailed the other way and become Helie. All supposition of course.
