Daniel,
The information I have comes from a book my Great Uncle wrote, "Brereton" "A Family History". I have very little info on a Col. Thomas Brereton. What I have is he lived in Northumberland county, Virginia. He was an Officer in the Colonial army in 1680.

The first census of the U.S. taken in 1790 records a William, John, David, Thomas, Daniel, Joshua, Stephen, Henry, Francis, Samual and George. The Brereton names were missed spelled (as it often was/is).

I do have info on other Brereton's in the US during the 16th and 17th century, maybe they are related to your wife.

Another source:
Robert Maitland Brereton (1834-1912), of Norfold branch, authored a book "The Breretons of Cheshire", which shows a record of twenty-six generations of Breretons.

Hope this helps,
Dave
