Connie, I do have information of Brereton's in Cheshire England dating back nine hundred plus years. If you could provide some family names and dates, I may be able to assist you.

Very Briefly, This is what I have:
1087 - The first recorded Brereton, Ralph de Brereton. (the prefix "de" merely was French article denoting "of")
1194 - William de Brereton married Margey de Torhaunt.
1208 - William de Brereton was knighted by Henry III.

As the years pass, "de" is no longer used.

1586 - Sir William Brereton built Brereton Hall.
Jane Brereton - daughter of 2nd Lord Brereton married Sir Robert Holt of Aston. She, being the last survivor inherited the Brereton Hall property.
1722 - Brereton Hall and the Cheshire properties passed to the Holt family,of Aston.

This is the time where some Breretons went to Ireland, then moving on to Canada and the USA.

I do have more details of the above if you are interested.

Regards,
Dave
