I too am researching my surname in and around Cheshire. I have discovered that my family came from the Wybunbury/Shavington-cum-Gresty area but I have reached an impasse with my 2 x great grandfather William Brereton. He was born in Wybunbury about 1810. I cannot find a baptism for him and he does not appear to have any family. The next time he appears was in 1833 when he married Margaret Creswell in Stoke on Trent. he was a builder.

He subsequently returned to Cheshire and by 1861 was living in Shavington in Alma Cottage(one of a number of houses called Alma buildings, which he built). Can anyone suggest how I can pursue this?
