Hi Jackson. This discussion was started by my asking if anyone had considered Katherine Fisher, maid servant of the Brooke family, as a candidate for wife of Richard Marsham. I still think that she is the best candidate to date. There could have been other Katherine's who worked on the Manor, but from the list of those who arrieved in 1650 on the Brooke ship, there is only one Katherine in that list.

You are right, we do not know for sure that Katherine Marsham died in 1670 when her husband asked for the 50 acres. It does seem odd that he would have stayed a widower for 30 years.

You are probably right about Marsham's meteoric rise in the New World, from indentured servant to husband of Anne Calvert. As much as Lord Baltimore wanted to keep tha ancient feudal system of manors and class alive in this New World, the people living in it soon becgan to break down many of these barriers with rentors marrying land owners, etc.

If Charles Beaven's wife was Mary Marsham, it is unsettling that Richard Marsham did not mention any of that family in his will of 1713. In Charles Beaven's will of 1698, he refers to RIchard Marsham as Brother. The questions here are who was Richard Marsham's wife and who was Charles Beaven's wife? Katherine Fisher is a good possibility for Marsham. Could it be that Charles Beaven married a sister of that Katherine, a Mary Fisher? Only an idea at this point. There was a second Mary Brooke, daughter of Major Thomas Brooke. Perhaps she is a possibility since Mary Brooke of Baker Brooke was married to Raphael Neale. She would have been a niece of Anne Clavert's. The question is why did Charles refer to RIchard as "Brother"?
