Douglas- I guess none of us Long Island Brennans knew of Leo's return to the east. My Dad had known of his moving to CA, but I really can't recall if he was living in NH or elsewhere in New England when we were kids and used to go up to Rochester for vacations to see relatives up there. I just recall seeing their cousin Elaine, and Aunt Josephine, who still lived in the family house, as I recall. I suppose your grandparents moved back to the Boston area sometime after I saw them in CA in the '70s and your mother and her siblings stayed there and raised their own families. Small world, I guess. I'm the only one who wandered far from the fold myself (in Colorado). All of the other siblings are within 50 miles of midtown Manhattan.

It was my Uncle Tom, my Dad's brother and your grandfather's cousin, who died in CA in '79. I went to his funeral, and to my Aunt Cathy's service a few years later, also in CA. Uncle Arthur, the other remaining cousin of your grandfather from my side of the family, also died about ten years ago on LI. I can't recall the year.

It's kind of a shame that we (the Robert Brennan family) never connected with any of Leo's sons and daughters, if they were all in or around the Boston area. My uncle on my mother's side of the family is in Scituate, and we've had many gatherings there over the years. Some family reunions down on the Cape in Dennisport, too.

I'm sorry that you didn't get to connect with the relatives while you were over the pond, but you will hopefully have more chances to get over there in the future. I was telling Fr. McCloskey that I'd like to make the trip, too, but I was afraid that if I dropped into the area and mentioned my name, everyone would be so tired of seeing us 'Yanks' showing up that they'd run and hide!
