Looking for family of Thomas Patrick Brennan b 1829 Kilkenny, Ireland. Mother's maiden name, Catherine Ryan. Thomas married Elizabeth Kenney in Dublin between 1847-1850. Thomas was a skilled carpenter, but unable to find work. Brennan family immigrated to USA with members of Kenney and McAndrew families around 1850. They came in a "coffin" ship. Does anyone know which ship??? Which year?? Our ancestor wrote, "The ship had a small motor, but depended on wind in the sails for forward movement. It was becalmed in the Caribbean Sea for two weeks because the trade winds were not blowing. The crossing took six weeks. Passengers brought their own food and water and each day was important. Dysentery often spread throught the ship and caused many deaths." Our ancestor wrote, "The Kenney, McAndrew and Brennan families migrated to the US. They settled in Providence, Rhode Island and in Boston. John McAndrew was Chief of Staff to Gen. John J. Pershing in World War I". By 1854, Thomas and family were in New Orleans,LA and then Algiers,LA. The couple lost three sons to yellow fever. They moved north. By 1860, they were living in Chicago, Ward 6, Cook County, IL with two daughters. By 1864, they settled in St. Louis, MO where they lived out their lives.
