Unfortunately, I know that you're right about the difficulty. The fire was caused by an attack during the civil war and can now rightly be seen as a national catastrophe. Unfortunately, I don't know any more about my grandfather's family than I posted but I do know that my grandfather stayed in Ireland. Do you know your grandfather's name - that might help? Do you know your grandmother's maiden name? You have to patiently slot the pieces together like in a very difficult jigsaw but as I found on my mother's side, patience pays and you can make real breakthroughs.
