Searching for John (H?) Brennan who was born between 1842 and 1844 in County Roscommon Ireland or County Cork. John apparently immigrated to the United States from County Cork (Cobh Harbour) when he was between 6 and 16 years of age. A brother who was perhaps older and may have been named Patrick may have accompanied John. This brother was believed to have been a boxer and spent some time in the New York City area. John supposedly skipped stones across the River Suck in County Roscommon as a young man and was trained as a stonemason either before or shortly after he arrived in America. John’s port of arrival is unknown but he did work or pass through Waupaca Wisconsin where he met Miss Gunhil Gregerson (later Cornelia McGregor). The couple left the company of the “bride’s” family and may not have been married, as John was a Roman Catholic and Gunhil a Lutheran. However, they did have one child named James M. Brennan who was born in Plattsmouth Nebraska in 1870. John’s passion for the fife or piccolo caused the young couple to separate and his mother reared James. John worked on the Katey Railroad and spent his later years building brick structures in the community of Vinita Oklahoma, where he died in 1918.
John’s (only?) son James spent some time being educated at St. Mary’s Catholic College in San Antonio Texas. James spent many years in Mexico and frequented Monterrey in particular. James married Waudessa Spickelmier in Taos New Mexico in 1910. A man named Richard Quinn stood as witness for the couple and he is suspected to have been a distant relation. There may have been Coyne or Coin relatives as well.
