I'm interested in learning more about David Francis Bremner (1839-1922), his wife Katharine MacGregor Michie (1842-1931), and their descendants. What I know is that they lived at 5001 Greenwood Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60615. The Chicago, Illinois Tribune had an article in the society page in 1950 about the D.F. Bremner home. Architect Benjamin Marshall designed the home in Chicago. They had seven children named Agnes, David, James, Mary, John, Loretta, and Vincent. Mr. Bremner was the first president of the National Biscuit Company - a company he founded. He served in the 19th Illinois regiment inthe Civil War. His children are Edward G. of Kenilworth, David F. of Louisville, KY, Mrs. Harry Drake of Lake Shore Drive, and James V. of Hubbard Woods. The former, Agnes Bremner, who had married Daniel Maher of New Haven, Conn. had made her home next door to her parents and her children are Dr. David B. Daniel, Mrs. John Bick, and Mrs. Murtaugh. The house became the property (after the death of her parents) of Mrs. Michael Kannally (Mary Bremner). Of course, the info above comes from that newspaper article in 1950. Mr. Bremner founded Merigold, Mississippi and he and his wife helped settle his wife's brother's family in Nebraska (Beaver Creek, Ravenna, and Woodriver). Another Bremner (Alice Bremner) married Peter Guthrie who was the son of James Guthrie and Jane Finlater... Peter was the brother of Margaret Guthrie who married James Michie. Margaret Guthrie and James Michie were the parents of Katharine MacGregor Michie who married David Francis Bremner. If you have information or are connected to the people mentioned above, please email me at marie@falcon.cc.ukans.edu By the way, the people mentioned above had ancestory in Scotland.
