In the mid 1700's groups of Germans moved from Germany to Russia, along the Volga river and the Black Sea.
Then in the late 1800's many moved to America and Canada so they would not have to become "Russian citizens" and join the Army.(very simply put)
There is a organization called Am Historical Society of Germans from Russia that people can join to help find family/ancestors.

(Norka, is the city in Russia that my Brehm/Yost family is from.There were 100's of Brehms/Yosts in Norka...and we are trying to connect us all together)
