BREEN family from Ireland

Many people of the Breen lineage will find that their ancestors were spelled Brien or otherwise in older Irish records.
The same holds true the other way around, which makes it difficult to get an orientation which family one really belongs to.

For the purpose of orientation in the absence of Irish records, a group of genealogists have turned to the science of DNA testing to sort out the various surname spellings in our group, of which BREEN is a firm part. The surnames in our group's study focus are Breen, Brien, Brine, Burn, Burne, Burnes, Burns, Byrne and Beirne. Several of our researchers have solidly documented ancestries going back to the mid 18th century and some even further back into the 17th or 16th, thus helping us in sorting out the DNA results and providing local orientation of individual family origin.
Our goal is to identify this regional origin, correct original surname (misspelling is a highly common problem) as well as grouping our members into common ancestor clusters for research pools. So far we have about 40 members and have been able to isolate four distinct regional clusters.

Kind regards
