Doris

My connection to Breedings is Mary, b. Mar 18 1837, Lee Co, VA. I have found her in Squire H. Breeding's household in the 1850 census for Lee Co, VA. According to some sources, Squire, b. abt 1801, VA, is the son of Jeremiah Breeding and Elizabeth Hurst. Squire's wife in the 1850 Lee Co, VA census was Sarah who is thought to be Sarah Sally Burton, b. 1806 Russell, VA.

Speculating based on the date of your William's birth, he might possibly be brother to my Squire H. Breeding.

My Mary Breeding md. John Thomas also from Lee Co, VA Sep 23 1862. They had a daughter, Mary Ellen in 1863. My g. grandfather, Lawrence Lee Thomas, was born in Roane/Loudon Co, TN on Nov 17 1867. John Thomas died before Lawrence Lee Thomas was born. Why would Mary, very pregnant and with a 3 or 4 year old child, be traveling from Lee Co, VA? Did she have family already in the area? I believe so. I believe Evan, Bryant and William Breeding are all from the same family.

Lawrence Lee Thomas, son of Mary Breeding Thomas, named his firstborn son, Arthur Hinds Thomas. No one in the family knows where the name Hinds originates. After reviewing the book Roane Co, TN Marriages 1801-1855 where I found Evan Breeding married Abigail Hinds on Dec 19, 1829 in Roane Co, TN, I believe this MUST surely be the connection.

Bryant Breeding is also listed as marrying Sarah Longacre on Mar 30, 1830. However, they are not listed in the 1830 Roane Co, TN census. I also found Elizabeth Longacre md to Eli S. Hinds on May 28, 1828 in Roane Co, TN.

So, it seems the Breedings, Longacres and Hinds are entertwined at least in Roane Co, TN.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone having additional info on these names.
