Interesting question, and on the face of it I can add nothing.

But there were several Boyds around the Amazon area on which I have found fragmentary references in British consular correspondence at the National Archives [researches not complete]

6/1890 - Robert George Boyd appears in list of British residents at Pará. Born in England.

12/1903 - Note from Pará that an Alexander Boyd had been reported as having died [somewhere in the Amazon region] in 1900, but no information or subsequent trace found.

9/1907 - Reference to A Boyd, manager of the Amazon Steam Navigation Co.
