Dear David,

Thank you for your information.

I did see the reference at the National Archives which gave me the Brazil connection. Amyatt Buxton was with the RN until abt. 1853 when he was discharged; he joined the RN in 1846. His ship (HMS Penelope) was based along the west coast of Africa. I cannot find any reference to him being in Rio or South America with the RN. I can only guess that he went to Brazil after service with the RN.

There is no trace of him in UK records, other than his christening record and the National Archive document in 1861 and one in 1869; no census records, marriage or death. Perhaps he did live and die in Brazil.

Any ideas on how I could find out what happened to him?

Regards
Peter
