Gilberto, Thanks for the reply. I've had a look at the Department of Justice Website - sadly, the Civil Registration Offices started only as far back as 1888 in Rio de Janeiro. I've had a look at the ship index - they have the earliest arrivals and later arrivals (1926 onwards)- nothing for the 1870s-1880s. I've sent a request to Western Australia (I live on the other side of the country, near Sydney) to see if they can find the right ship and confirm or provide another date of arrival of Justino Ferreira in Western Australia. Justino married in South Australia in 1899 - unfortunately the certificate only provides the name of his father, which was Pedro, and his age at the time of marriage. I have a couple of questions - how would you go about locating Church records in Brazil from the mid nineteenth century? Are there also records available of ships departures from Rio, which include passenger lists? Thanks again and Regards, Simon Notify Administrator about this message?
